چکیده

We study the transmission coefficient of a plane wave through a 1D finite quasi-periodic system – the Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) model – embedding in an infinite uniform harmonic chain. By varying the mass of atoms in the infinite uniform chain, we obtain the transmission coefficients for all eigenfrequencies. The phonon localization of the incommensurated FK chain is also studied in terms of the transmission coefficients and the Thouless exponents. Moreover, the heat conduction of Rubin-Greer-like model for FK chain at low temperature is calculated. It is found that the stationary heat flux J(N) ∼ N, and α depends on the strength of the external potential. PACS: 05.60.+w, 44.90.+c, 64.70.Rh Typeset using REVTEX ∗to appear in Phys. Rev. ماهیت ویژه حالتهای فونون در زنجیرهای شبه تناوبی( نقش شبکه‌های فیبوناچی )

Using the forced oscillator method (FOM) and the transfer-matrix technique, we numerically investigate the nature of the phonon states and the wave propagation, in the presence of an external force, in the chains composed of Fibonacci lattices of type site, bond and mixing models, as the quasiperiodic systems. Calculating the Lyapunov exponent and the participation ratio, we also study the lo...

Experimental metrology to obtain thermal phonon transmission coefficients at solid interfaces

Interfaces play an essential role in phonon-mediated heat conduction in solids, impacting applications ranging from thermoelectric waste heat recovery to heat dissipation in electronics. From the microscopic perspective, interfacial phonon transport is described by transmission coefficients that link vibrational modes in the materials composing the interface. However, direct experimental determ...

Heat conduction and phonon localization in disordered harmonic crystals

We investigate the steady-state heat current in twoand three-dimensional isotopically disordered harmonic lattices. Using localization theory as well as kinetic theory we estimate the system size dependence of the current. These estimates are compared with numerical results obtained using an exact formula for the current given in terms of a phonon transmission function, as well as by direct non...

Modeling Diffusion to Thermal Wave Heat Propagation by Using Fractional Heat Conduction Constitutive Model

Based on the recently introduced fractional Taylor’s formula, a fractional heat conduction constitutive equation is formulated by expanding the single-phase lag model using the fractional Taylor’s formula. Combining with the energy balance equation, the derived fractional heat conduction equation has been shown to be capable of modeling diffusion-to-Thermal wave behavior of heat propagation by ...

Quantum thermal transport in nanostructures

In this colloquia review we discuss methods for thermal transport calculations for nanojunctions connected to two semi-infinite leads served as heat-baths. Our emphases are on fundamental quantum theory and atomistic models. We begin with an introduction of the Landauer formula for ballistic thermal transport and give its derivation from scattering wave point of view. Several methods (scatterin...
